How Vehicle GPS Cures Dealers’ Low-Battery Blues

Written by MOGO | Jul 24, 2024 2:09:13 PM

Battery life presents a growing concern for dealers.

With supply constraints easing, some OEMs are requiring dealers to keep higher inventory, leading to batteries draining while waiting on the lot. Some manufacturers also use low-grade batteries that do not have a warranty. If they die on the lot, the dealer is responsible for the replacement cost. These challenges are compounded by the negative effects on customer experience and dealership reputation if a dealer sells new vehicles with drained batteries.

Sometimes the solution to a problem is hiding where you least expect it. While vehicle GPS is primarily known for location tracking services, voltage monitoring can be built in as part of some systems, as it is in MOGO.

There are three ways to monitor vehicle battery status with MOGO:

Dashboard

The Vehicles tab on the Inventory Management dashboard is home to 14 widgets that offer valuable vehicle information.

The Battery Level widget displays a breakdown of the battery levels of all equipped vehicles in inventory. Clicking on the Disconnected, Low, or Normal indicators directs the user to the Vehicles workspace for more detailed vehicle information.

Reports

The MOGO Reports workspace contains both standard and custom reports that users can run on demand, schedule in advance to be delivered by email, or downloaded in CSV or PDF formats.

Low Battery Report
This report displays all vehicles in the organization reporting a low battery reading at any given time.

Vehicle Report
This report can be used to determine a vehicle's location on the dealership lot or in storage areas by filtering options including make, model, year, color, and odometer reading. It can also be used to identify vehicles with a battery that has failed or is running low.

Alerts

Users can set vehicle-specific alerts and choose how to be notified when the vehicle’s battery runs low.

Conclusion

On the long list of everyday dealer concerns, battery issues are an easy one to address — especially when the solution is part of a larger system that also monitors inventory age, vehicle location, service history, and more.
